The foundation of Nancy’s art was established in 1954 with her completion of a three-year program at the Art Center School of Design, Pasadena, California. Nancy’s work as a designer placed her at the top of her class in direct support of the Advertising Design major so fundamental to the success of her career.

Nancy married fellow Art Center student Gerry Simpson and together they raised three very talented children. They taught painting and drawing privately in their own studio. In 1966, the family moved to Washington State.

In 1971, Nancy founded Simpson Advertising and Design, Inc. By 1976 she was directing a staff of five, managing accounts and placing ads in national print, radio and television media. After 12 years as a graphic designer and business owner, Nancy decided it was time to fulfill a career ambition and turn to the world of fine art.

In addition to exhibiting her oils and acrylics over the years in California, Washington, Missouri, Colorado and New York, Nancy taught drawing and painting to Junior High and College level students in Eastern Washington.

Nancy was selected to be among 65 artists to exhibit in the American Artists Golden Anniversary National Art Competition 1987. Her painting was selected from more than 14,000 individual entries. The exhibit traveled across the U.S. opening in San Francisco in May 1987 and closing in New York in January 1988.

Subsequent exhibitions in Southern California, execution of commissioned works and demonstration/lesson periods preceded Nancy’s move to Whidbey Island for the new millennium. Nancy and her husband located in Greenbank, Washington in January 2000. She joined the Artists Co-Op in Langley, in September 2001. Nancy’s graphic talents are not limited to acrylics. She also uses colored pencil, charcoal, graphite pencil and oil. In all of her work, regardless of medium, look for her use of light. The effective use of the “laws of light” on subject matter in her work conveys a mood-setting quality.
